As even more severe weather strikes the Midwest, the thoughts of everyone at Whitley Manufacturing are with our fellow-Hoosiers and Midwesterners who have been so dramatically effected by last week’s severe and unseasonable storms.

A pair of Southern Indiana communities suffered heavy damage in addition to the losses already suffered by victims throughout the region.  The National Weather Service states that the tornado that struck New Pekin measured a EF-3 on the Fujita scale, while the tornado which struck Henryville, IN measured EF-4 with winds of 175 MPH.

As our neighbors shift their focus from rescue to recovery, Whitley Manufacturing is proud to stand ready to support the disaster recovery with our line of relocatable modular buildings produced with our sustainable construction system.

Modular construction from Whitley Manufacturing can deliver flexible and high-quality commercial space on an accelerated timeline, allowing for a quick recovery and a well-supported clean-up effort.

We currently have a number of our flexible clearspan modular building components available for rapid delivery.  These flexible units feature clearspan construction, allowing for endless reconfiguration of the building and interior layout.  See our full inventory of modular buildings available for rapid delivery.

Whitley Manufacturing is a custom manufacturer of commercial modular buildings, and as such, can work with you, your architect, your town planner, etc. to design and build facilities to suit your individual needs.

Back from the Healthcare Facilities Symposium

Modular Medical Buildings and Modular Healthcare Buildings

Healthcare Facilities symposium

Whitley Manufacturing has just returned from the Healthcare Facilities Symposium in Chicago, IL, one of the nation’s premier venues for showcasing innovative products, companies, and processes serving and supporting the healthcare industry with regards to facility design and construction.  Thank you to all the material vendors, contractors, architects, and facility managers for their interest in custom permanent modular medical facilities built with our sustainable modular construction system.

There is increasing awareness of the benefits of modular construction, particularly in the healthcare sector where the accelerated timeline to completion represents significant revenue and is important for patient retention.  Whitley Manufacturing’s modular healthcare buildings offerings span a broad range of facility types, including:

  • Relocatable or permanent modular clinical space & modular physicians’ offices
  • Medical Office Buildings
  • Modular Surgical Centers
  • Modular Emergency Rooms / Modular Acute Care Facilities
  • Modular Radiotherapy and Oncology Clinics
  • Modular MRI / CT / PET Imaging Facilities
  • Modular Dialysis / Renal Treatment Facilities
  • Modular Hospital space / Hospital additions / Patient Suites
  • Dental Facilities
  • Modular Administrative Space
In addition to custom-designed permanent and relocatable modular buildings, Whitley Manufacturing also offers prefabricated components to be used in a hybrid approach that utilizes the efficiencies of off-site modularization / prefabrication in combination with conventional site construction to help reduce contractor and sub-contractor traffic within the building, accelerate timelines to completion, and control quality and costs.
We can custom design and manufacture prefabricated components outfitted with custom systems, finishes as selected by the client or project architect, that is prepared for ease of transit at the site and quick hook-up to the buildings structural, utility, and electrical systems.  Whitley Manufacturing designs with BIM, allowing architects to easily collaborate with our in-house design team, model the component within their larger facility plan, insure seamless integration of systems, and enable clash detection early in the design phase.
Common prefabricated components for the healthcare sector include:
  • Patient Restrooms (sometimes referred to as restroom “pods”, or “wet cores”)
  • Equipment Enclosures
  • Operating Suites
  • Headwalls
  • Patient Suites
The benefits of Whitley Manufacturing’s prefabricated components include:
  • Reduced timeline on the jobsite
  • Reduced congestion / traffic by trades at the jobsite
  • Efficient modular construction systems reduce costs
  • Off-site construction in a modern modular manufacturing facility insures a high standard of quality and rigorous inspections
  • Our custom design and fabrication capabilities and experience allow for broad design flexibility

Modular Buildings for Disaster Response

Modular Buildings for Hurricane Irene Recovery

Source: NASA

Off the Atlantic Coast, Hurricane Irene is strengthening, and while the track of the storm is still unclear, there is still the threat that the hurricane could directly hit the United States.  Even if the hurricane’s track remains offshore, the Eastern Seaboard may still be lashed with dangerous surf / storm surge, hurricane force (Category 3 or 4) winds up to 131 MPH, and heavy rain.

As danger approaches, the primary focus should be on safety (preparation and evacuation), but must quickly pivot to response.  For the response to a wide array of disasters, modular construction offers an ideal solution.  Modular buildings (constructed off-site in a controlled factory environment) can be quickly moved into the effected area, providing undamaged operational space for first responders and clean up teams, as well as allowing for businesses and vital services to quickly re-open.  As recovery efforts proceed, the buildings can be relocated and re-purposed as they are needed.

Whitley Manufacturing builds an array of modular buildings for disaster response applications, ranging from flexible clearspan space, to emergency water and sewer service (PDF download), to support facilities (showers and lockers, temporary housing), and a variety of modular healthcare facilities.  We currently have a limited amount of high-quality, flexible clearspan space available for delivery on an accelerated timeline.

Green Modular Healthcare Facilities

RAD Technology Medical Systems’ (RAD) innovative modular radiotherapy clinic (modular building components manufactured by Whitley Manufacturing) was recently featured in Building Design + Construction’s (BD+C) Modular Advantage publication.

The modular clinic for Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) in Ballard, Washington was designed and built to the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification requirements and will be the first LEED certified radiotherapy facility in the nation.
