About French-American School
Located on a island in Puget Sound, the French-American School educates children in an affluent community in French, to prepare them for college, business, and community leadership.

Their Need
The French-American School was operating from a collection of dilapidated buildings on leased ground. They wanted a cost-conscious solution that would provide them with one structure that they would be able to move, if their lease required it. They also had a very short time frame to accomplish demolition and reconstruction. And, they wanted the building to be expandable.

The Whitley Solution
Demolition started immediately after school ended in June and there was no delay to the start of classes in September. The 18,000 square foot building was designed to “easily” move to another site, and to accept a second floor in the years to come. It was all done within the school’s budget and provided 18 classrooms with cafeteria and administrative offices. The FAS has a showplace building which facilitates both education and growth.
