Indiana Institute of Technology
Serving over 3,000 students from around the world, Indiana Institute of Technology
is
located in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tech, as the name implies, focuses
on engineering,
sciences and mathematics, but also offers students a rounded liberal arts
education to balance the technical emphasis. Over the past ten years the campus
has
seen a transformation as a dozen new facilities have expanded the capacity
of the
school.
Their
Need
Housing students has increasing become a problem as the neighborhoods around
the
campus were cleared of 19th century housing to make way for additional classrooms
and common spaces. Tech decided to build, but needed their new student quarters
to
be competitive with nearby private apartment complexes, as well as available
in time
for the start of a new school year. And, construction could not disrupt campus,
so the
complex had to “mushroom” to completion over the summer months.
Our
Solution
Whitley took on the project with the guarantee that students would have spacious
and
comfortable apartments well before the start of classes. In less than 120 days
ground
was cleared, the modules completed and finish work...well, finished. Over 50
students
will have private rooms in shared apartments. Common areas will provide well
lighted study commons while saving energy through passive solar applications.
The
building is also wired for quick access to broadband internet uses. Tech is
pleased
enough to begin work on additional housing. |
