Twostory.com, a California-based modular building industry Internet site, has chosen a project by Whitley Manufacturing, based in South Whitley, Indiana, to showcase on the premier edition of its web site.
The project was constructed for the YMCA Service Learning Academy, a cooperative charter school. Sponsored by the Detroit YMCA and operated by Edison Schools Inc. The 40,000 square foot facility was constructed in partnership with Innovative Modular Solutions, Inc. located in Naperville, Illinois.
Twostory.com cited the speed and cost effectiveness with which Whitley completed the two-story multi-use building. Only 52 days elapsed from the beginning of building assembly on the job site to the date of owner occupancy. Edison and the YMCA are so satisfied with the workmanship of the building that they have initiated the planning phase of a modular expansion to be constructed in the Summer of 2000.
Edison Schools, Inc., founded in 1991, is the country's leading private manager of public schools.
"One of the strengths of modular construction," according to Whitley President Simon Dragan, is that "we can be manufacturing the buildings in our factory before they have broken ground at the site. That gives us a jump on the schedules and saves a lot of time."
Twostory.com, located in Huntington Beach, California, serves school administrators nationwide with impartial information about the school construction marketplace, according to Matt Banes, president of GBM Marketing. He added that school administrators use the site to research school construction, to obtain peer analysis of completed projects, to check manufacturer references and stay current with changing building uses and manufacturing techniques.
