About Valparaiso High School
Valparaiso is 50 miles east of Chicago in northwestern Indiana. Valparaiso High School is a football powerhouse in that part of Indiana, as well as strong academic center with ties to Valparaiso University, a major Lutheran university in America.
Valparaiso needed a completely new system of stands and press box. The old system had simply deteriorate to the point that it was more cost-effective to replace the system rather than to repair it. Also, over the years a tennis complex had grown adjacent to the football field, so they needed a press box that “could look both ways.”
The work was done in the summer between sport seasons, so a completely new press box was designed with a camera deck, hand rails and fencing, modern electronics, ample counter space and plenty of insulation against the heavy snowfalls that visit that part of Indiana. Additionally, large view windows were placed on both sides of the building so that the media could cover tennis tournaments, as well as football and marching band events. The press box was fully function within a short few months in plenty of time for the first kick-off.
