Whitley Receives Two Awards From The Modular Building Institute for Temporary Modular Buildings

Whitley Manufacturing has been recognized with two prestigious awards of distinction by the Modular Building Institute (MBI) for its exceptional work on two modular building projects. The first project involved the construction of a concourse for Delta Airlines at LaGuardia Airport in East Elmhurst, New York, while the second project entailed the development of an office building for a Biotech company in Boston, MA.

Delta Airlines Concourse Project | East Elmhurst, NY

The Delta Airlines Concourse Project was an impressive undertaking. A temporary modular structure measuring 14' x 238' was constructed to connect Concourse G to Terminal D, with the intention of removing it after the completion of the new Headhouse at LaGuardia Airport. To ensure structural integrity, the modular units were supported by a steel superstructure situated approximately 16 feet above ground level. The exterior of the structure was adorned with painted corrugated metal, while the interior walls featured FRP panels. The installation of carpeting, matching the existing concourses, was meticulously executed on-site. The roof design was carefully planned to accommodate fire alarm, suppression, and MEP equipment, including roof RTU's, while still maintaining a shipping height that allowed for transportation to the site. Whitley Manufacturing went above and beyond by designing and installing OSHA-compliant guardrails for rooftop HVAC access.

Biotech Office Project | Boston, MA

The Biotech Office Project presented its own set of challenges. Whitley Manufacturing was tasked with creating a suitable space to accommodate the relocation of the Massachusetts Biotech Client's support office staff, necessitated by the renovation and expansion of the manufacturing floor space. Due to limited available area, a two-story modular building was deemed necessary to maximize occupancy. Fourteen modules, each measuring 14' x 66', were skillfully constructed and stacked seven over seven, resulting in an impressive 13,000 square foot building. The office space features an open layout, multiple huddle rooms and conference rooms, a kitchenette on each floor, as well as men's and ladies' rooms on both levels. An open atrium stairwell connects the two floors, enhancing the overall design and functionality of the building.

Whitley Manufacturing takes great pride in receiving these esteemed awards within the modular construction industry. These accolades further solidify their position as industry leaders, constantly pushing the boundaries of modular buildings and the off-site construction industry as a whole.
